Estimation Engineer – Fabrication Industry

Job Summary

The Estimation Engineer will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, BOQs, and technical proposals for fencing and metal fabrication projects. The role involves reviewing tender documents, analyzing drawings, coordinating with engineering and production teams, and ensuring competitive yet profitable pricing for bids.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and client requirements for fencing and fabrication projects. 
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including material, labor, equipment, and subcontracting costs. 
• Develop Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and technical/commercial proposals. 
• Conduct quantity take-offs from architectural and structural drawings. 
• Coordinate with design, production, procurement, and site teams for accurate costing inputs. 
• Analyze project risks, scope variations, and identify cost-saving opportunities. 
• Prepare tender submissions within deadlines. 
• Maintain historical cost data and update estimation databases. 
• Attend pre-bid meetings and clarify technical queries with clients/consultants. 
• Support negotiation and value engineering processes after bid submission. 

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 
• 3–6+ years of experience in estimation within fencing or steel fabrication. 
• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes (cutting, welding, galvanizing, powder coating). 
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. 
• Experience with BOQ preparation and tender documentation. 
• Good understanding of market rates for steel and fabrication materials. 
• Proficiency in MS Excel and estimation software (AutoCAD knowledge is an advantage). 
• Strong analytical, numerical, and negotiation skills.
